Big, White, and Blue.
Are you an American? Do you want to feel fat? Come to China! Here’s a disturbing drawing I found on a website that illustrates obesity rates by country.
China isn’t depicted here, but my guess is that if it were, it would be one of the skinniest three countries.
As I was packing to come here, Chris kept reminding me that we were moving to China, not Mars, and that we could buy clothes after we got here. Why did I listen to him? I think I would have an easier time buying clothes that fit me if I lived among beings like this.
By American standards, I’m nowhere near fat, and my BMI is firmly in the middle of the “normal” range. However, it’s still next to impossible to find clothes for myself in China (and forget trying to find shoes to fit my size 10 feet). In fact, the only place I’ve been able to find clothes that come close to fitting has been at (gasp!) Walmart, and even there, I had to buy the very biggest size they had. To add insult to injury, after the very first washing, those XXL Walmart shirts were obscenely tight and no longer wearable.
We’re going to the beach this weekend to celebrate P’s birthday. Unfortunately, neither Chris nor I thought to pack a swimsuit, so we went shopping for new ones this morning. Chris now weighs less than he has since 1981 and is frankly too darn skinny. However, even the very biggest swimsuit he found was too small for him.
People, the scrap of black fabric pictured above is an XXXXL! A quadruple X! What does an M look like?
After seeing that, I knew better than to even think about looking for one for myself. Not that it really mattered. Even if I had found a swimsuit big enough for my gigantic American body, I’m not sure I can imagine myself frolicking on the beach in one of these numbers.
Looks like I’ll be swimming in shorts and a t-shirt. No biggie, I guess.

I let my ipod die and I am killing time waiting for it to charge so I can go run. Perfect running motivator blog. This is hilarious! I would be having your exact same issues.

uh – yeah – you might want to prepare yourselves mentally. By Chinese standards, those swim trunks are WAY too big for Chris….
